Runes and Roadkill
Death and Taxidermy Book 1
In Moss Hollow, even the roadkill has secrets.
Taxidermist Tess Hollis puts dead things back together for a living—but it’s not as creepy as it sounds. Well, mostly.
In a world where magic has returned, everyone has a little spark of power. Tess’s gift? Seeing the memories of dead animals, which makes her great at taxidermy… and terrible at keeping out of trouble.
When someone brings in a dead fox found on the side of the road to Tess’s taxidermy shop, she quickly realizes this isn’t a normal fox. The animal was a mage’s familiar, and the memory it shows her is murder.
Tess suddenly finds herself wrapped up in a Magical Crimes Division investigation involving blood mages, murder, fea spirits, and one very grumpy detective.
Can Tess help find the killer before they strike again, or is she going to end up the roadkill this time?
Coming Winter of 2026
Becca was a taxidermist for 22 years before retiring to become a semi-“normal” person with very strange (mostly bloody) stories that in no way make things awkward at a party… right. Anyway. She lives in Northern Idaho with her adorable fluffy dog and a collection of skulls and vertebrae tucked in among her houseplants. When she’s not educating her friends on the best brand of paper towels for cleaning up blood she enjoys hiking and gardening. When she isn’t doing that she can be found typing away at her local library hoping no one reads over her shoulder and thinks she’s a serial killer.
